- Other Names
- Iscaguard CMI
- Chemical Name
- Iscaguard CMI
- Usage
- In cosmetic and personal care formulations, Iscaguard CMI is typically used at 0.05% to 0.10% of the commercial solution in rinse-off products such as shampoos, shower gels, bath foams, and liquid soaps. It is not permitted in leave-on cosmetic products under current EU cosmetic regulations. The preservative is effective within a pH range of approximately 3.0 8.0 and is generally added during the cooling phase of production, preferably below 40 C, to maintain optimal activity. The final dosage should always be confirmed through preservative efficacy (challenge) testing and compliance with local cosmetic regulations.

About ISCA GUARD CMI
Iscaguard CMI is a highly effective broad-spectrum preservative system containing a blend of Methylchloroisothiazolinone (MCI) and Methylisothiazolinone (MI) in a 3:1 ratio, supplied as a stabilized aqueous solution. It is designed to provide excellent protection against bacteria, yeasts, and molds at very low use levels. Iscaguard CMI is particularly effective in water-based and surfactant-based formulations where microbial contamination can compromise product safety and shelf life. The preservative is widely used in shampoos, shower gels, liquid soaps, bath foams, and other rinse-off personal care products. It offers rapid antimicrobial activity across a broad spectrum of microorganisms and remains effective over a wide pH range. Due to its high efficacy, only small amounts are required to achieve reliable preservation. However, because isothiazolinones are known sensitizers, regulatory authorities strictly control their use in cosmetic products, especially leave-on applications. Iscaguard CMI is valued for its cost-effectiveness, ease of incorporation, and proven preservation performance in rinse-off formulations.
