Polyglycerol Monostearate (PGMS) is a non-ionic, multifunctional ingredient widely used in cosmetic and personal care formulations for its emulsifying, stabilizing, and skin-conditioning properties. It is derived from the esterification of polyglycerola polymer of glycerinwith stearic acid, a naturally occurring fatty acid typically sourced from vegetable oils. This origin makes PGMS suitable for use in mild, biodegradable, and often natural or eco-conscious product formulations.

Structurally, PGMS contains both hydrophilic (water-attracting) and lipophilic (oil-attracting) groups, allowing it to act as an effective emulsifier. It is especially useful in stabilizing oil-in-water (O/W) emulsions, where oil droplets are dispersed in a continuous water phase.
