Carbomer is a family of high-molecular-weight, crosslinked acrylic acid polymers widely used in cosmetic and personal care formulations as a thickener, gelling agent, rheology modifier, suspension aid, and emulsion stabilizer. It appears as a fine white, fluffy powder and is capable of producing crystal-clear gels with excellent viscosity at very low concentrations. When dispersed in water and neutralized with an appropriate alkali such as Sodium Hydroxide, Potassium Hydroxide, Triethanolamine, or Aminomethyl Propanol, Carbomer swells to form a smooth, stable gel with exceptional clarity and texture. It enhances the consistency and stability of creams, lotions, serums, gels, and emulsions while preventing the settling of insoluble particles and active ingredients. Carbomer provides excellent spreadability, a light non-greasy skin feel, and superior suspension properties.
