CARBOMER 98 0 Specification
- Chemical Name
- Carbomer 980
- Usage
- In cosmetic and personal care formulations, Carbomer 980 is typically used at 0.1% to 1.0%. In clear gels, serums, and hand sanitizers, usage levels generally range from 0.2 0.8%. In creams, lotions, moisturizers, and emulsion systems, concentrations of 0.1 0.5% are commonly used to provide viscosity, suspension, and emulsion stability. Carbomer 980 should be dispersed into the water phase and neutralized to a pH of approximately 6.0 7.0 to achieve optimum thickening performance. The final usage level should be optimized through formulation development, viscosity evaluation, stability testing, and compatibility assessment with other formulation ingredients.

CARBOMER 98 0 About
Carbomer 980 is a high-purity, crosslinked polyacrylic acid polymer widely used in cosmetic and personal care formulations as a thickener, gel-forming agent, rheology modifier, suspension aid, and emulsion stabilizer. It appears as a fine, white, fluffy powder and is known for producing crystal-clear gels with excellent viscosity and smooth flow characteristics at very low concentrations. Carbomer 980 readily disperses in water and, upon neutralization with a suitable base such as Sodium Hydroxide, Potassium Hydroxide, Triethanolamine, or Aminomethyl Propanol, forms a stable three-dimensional gel network. It provides outstanding thickening efficiency, improves emulsion stability, and effectively suspends insoluble particles and active ingredients, preventing separation during storage. Carbomer 980 imparts a light, silky, and non-tacky skin feel while enhancing the texture, spreadability, and aesthetic appeal of creams, lotions, gels, serums, hand sanitizers, facial cleansers, sunscreens, and hair styling products. It is compatible with a wide range of cosmetic ingredients and performs well in both aqueous gels and oil-in-water emulsions. Due to its excellent clarity, high viscosity, and long-term stability, Carbomer 980 is one of the most preferred rheology modifiers for premium cosmetic and personal care formulations.
